Personal email vs. work email
Personal email or work email: which should you request?
By Volt Enrich
Choose the email field that fits your purpose and the person's known contact preferences. Personal email and work email are independent choices in Volt Enrich, so you can request either one or both.
Start with a profileGoogle sign-in and approved access required.
Two fields, two different kinds of address
Work email refers to a professional contact address. Personal email refers to a personal contact address. These labels describe the type of result; neither label guarantees that an address is current, monitored, or the person's preferred way to hear from you.
A returned work email is not proof of someone's current employment. A returned personal email is not proof that the person is looking for a job. Keep contact details separate from the evidence you use to assess a candidate's role or interest.
Choose based on the next step in your workflow
If you are preparing a professional contact list that needs work addresses, select Work email. If your workflow specifically calls for a personal contact address and that channel is appropriate, select Personal email. Select both only when you need both kinds of detail.
If a person has already told you how they prefer to be contacted, use that preference to guide your choice. Finding an additional address does not make it a better channel, and availability alone does not establish permission to contact someone.
An example of field selection
Suppose you have two groups of profile URLs: one needs work email only, while the other needs personal email only. Submit the first group with Work email selected, then create a second run with Personal email selected.
Volt Enrich applies your chosen fields to every profile in a run. Separating the groups keeps each request aligned with its purpose. Mobile phone remains an independent choice and does not need to be selected with either email field.
Read each result independently
A profile can return a work email without a personal email, or a personal email without a work email. A missing result for one field does not tell you whether the other field is available.
In the results table, a field you did not request stays blank. Review the selected fields and the run status before interpreting an empty-looking cell. Saved runs remain available in Recent, and completed results can be downloaded as CSV.
Review freshness before using an address
We do our best to keep contact details current, but some may be outdated. An email result is not a promise of delivery or a substitute for confirming that you have the right person.
Review the profile and your existing relationship context before using the result. If the person has provided a newer address or a contact preference directly, account for that information in your next step.
Questions about this workflow
Do I have to request work email to find personal email?
No. Personal email can be selected on its own. Work email and Mobile phone can remain unselected.
Does personal email mean the person's LinkedIn login address?
No. A returned personal contact address does not establish which email the person uses to sign in to LinkedIn.
Can I save my preferred field selection?
Yes. Enable Remember my selections in your account to restore your chosen fields on later visits. Review the selection before each run, especially when your purpose changes.
